I have lived in Downtown Winnipeg for a very long time. I have heard redneck assholes from Oakbank drive down Portage yelling slurs to everyone. Men...women...children. Every colour, size and smell. These guys are like that... Big, dumb, redneck idiots. I have also seen security at the Liqour Mart eyeball a native who walks in. How dare he do that! He must be a racist! Or maybe he's looking at the numbers.
Most crimes in Winnipeg are perpetrated by natives. You doubt? Here's some fuck'in numbers for you: In Manitoba, Aboriginal people accounted for 71% of sentenced admissions in 2005/2006, Up from 58% in 1996/1997.
Remember when Rinelle Harper was raped, beaten to a pulp....probably raped again...but with a knife this time, and then beaten to the edge of death right beside the stink river? As per the National Post:
"Justin James Hudson, 20, along with a 17-year-old male who can’t be named, are charged with attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon."
Keep in mind though that the perps obviously had issues too. Check out this article about Justin's upbringing: HERE
Who is to blame? When a child grows up being abused, neglected and tossed aside, who is accountable? All of us, from top to bottom. We are in this together. The problems run throughout Canadian society.
While there is racism in Winnipeg and people from all walks of life are frustrated with the situation in this prairie butt-fuck town, the truth of the matter is that there is a HUGE socio-economic problem. This is not just Winnipeg but all across the country. It sticks out a lot more in Winnipeg because of the good 'ole numbers game.
Winnipeg's population: apprx:708,000. First Nations in Winnipeg make up 11.7% (on paper) of that. Source: http://worldpopulationreview.com/world-cities/winnipeg-population/
That's the biggest percentage pertaining to any major centre in Canada. So yeah...when you have such a large number of disaffected peoples in an area...there is gonna be issues.
Idea...let's pry our heads out of our asses and look at the real problems. Chiefs that steal from their people. A bullshit Indian Act that haunts and subjects First Nations to "other" status. Reserve systems that poison peoples' minds and bodies. Ignorant majorities that like to point fingers, call names and concern themselves with where the hip or most fattening restaurant is. While you can't cure stupidity, you can educate anyone to a point. You just gotta try.
Oh...and as previously reported on the DSC, instead of pissing money in the wind for that atrocity known as The Canadian Museum for Human Rights, those multi-millions could have went to strengthening the First Nation identity and sense of purpose in their stronghold of Winnipeg. But that...not surprisingly, wouldn't have worked for the Asper agenda, would it?
Good editorial about the crime stats and challenges facing Winnipeg. Written in 2012! Check it out HERE.
